dear Larry, dear Anne,

Since I took my time and studied the forum for a while I figured that only you might be able to help me. I am a victiom of an identity theft as well. there is a site of me which is able to destroy my life. of course I went to the advocat, because I know who is the only person who has got those pictures of me, - and after a while - and a letter of my advocat the fake was deleted, but nevertheles it is still visible in cache. sometimes it is gone for weeks and then it appears again. Does this mean that the site has been online again and: what can I do against it? Please help me. If there is a way to find out who created the site I would be very glad also. I would like to proove...and I would like stop it forever. thank you

PS: unfortunately Myspace has not answered my messages till now.

Thanks for the clarification, Maria (and for your response, Jbcoops). I can only add that the only info-removal page I'm aware of at Google is for the Google PhoneBook. But surfed around in Google and found this sub-heading near the bottom of Google's "Privacy Center" page: "Requests for Removal of Links or Cached Materials." Maybe the information under that sub-head will be helpful. Good luck,

If it is in the "google cache" it's not likely to disappear at all, since google is notorious for never deleting *anything*. Indeed, this is an argument that some people use against gmail. If the falsified page no longer exists on MySpace my thought is you are "relatively safe" since who is going to search google for a deleted false page about you, except for you yourself. Furthermore, anyone who does such a search must be doing it for some weird kicks, and not in any way trying to incriminate you for anything (since the actual MySpace page was deleted).

I suppose you could try and contact google and see if they are willing to delete their cached version of the false MySpace page. Please bear in mind that if the kids (guessing it was kids who did this) find out how upset you are by all this, they will likely try this kind of stunt again. As you obviously learned, it's a lot easier to put up a phony MySpace page than it is to get it taken down. And MySpace adds a quarter of a million profiles *every day*.

Thank you for responding. Thank you so much. I am sorry that I did not mentioned what cache am talking about. It is indeed the Google Cache I guess. When I fill in my name at google the URL of myspace, including my real name, appears. Even if the link itself is guiding the viewer to an deleted page, the cache is still showing the site. I am wondering. how is it possible that the site wasgone for weeks (also in the Google cache) but appears now again? do you know this?
Thank you. It is wonderful to realize that there is somebody who cares... ( I am sorry for my english;..)
all the best

Maria,

We would need some more detail to better understand what you mean by the fake page being in the "cache." What cache do you mean. Is it the local cache on your browser (if so you just delete the history), a cache on Google or some other search engine (that requires cooperation from the search engine) or a cache of some kind on MySpace (I'm not aware of MySpace caching deleted pages but if that appears to be the problem we can check on it). In other words, we need a bit more detail.

Best,
