My friend says that Facebook is a lot better than MySpace -- less dangerous anyway. What's the difference.

My high school and the other schools in the area provide email accounts, but I'm not sure how widespread it is overall.

I know some high schools assign email addresses now. Is this becoming standard or only available at select high schools? -- Sean Percival Social Shield Webmaster http://www.socialshield.com

As a college student with both Facebook and Myspace, I'd have to say that Facebook is far more secure. Only your friends and people from your school can see your profile, and it's very easy to limit access to specific pieces of information. I like the site because there's a certain authenticity that comes with this added security. The requirement that members use real names and email addresses means that you always know who you're talking to. It's a lot harder to decieve someone using Facebook. Hope this helps!

Although now open to high school and some business users, Facebook got its start and largely still is a community for college students. One big difference between it and MySpace is that Facebook requires authentication. You can't get in unless you have a .edu (college) account or a registered corporate email address. High school students must be invited in by other students from their school. This system is far from perfect but it does tend to restrict who can get in. -- Larry Co-director BlogSafety.com
