Grow Up!

Parents, there is porn on the internet. BIG DEAL! Guess where there is also porn- Under a lot of people's beds in the form of magazines! Grow up. Be more mature about things like porn and stop whining about it. There has always been porn and always will be, and there's nothing you can do about it. Don't get me wrong, I am not condoning porn/masturbation but I am telling you that there is a lot more good on the internet than there is bad. So grow up and just tell your kids not to go on said porn sites.

Porn is addictive. Just like smoking and drugs. Gambling can become addictive too, but that doesn't mean that everybody who gambles can't stop. So when I say porn is addictive, I don't mean that everybody who sees it will fall into a trap, but a lot do. That's nothing to argue because it's not an opinion, it's a fact.

Josh, for a 17 year old, you have a lot of strong opinions and that can be both good and bad. I for one am not going to argue with you because you're set on your opinions just as I am set on mine. I good soldier knows when to surrender :) but I'm not agreeing with you ;) haha

By the way Larry, I know that the site isn't ALL about doom and gloom, but the vast majority of it is. Just take a look around the forum, at least half of them will be about porn, predators, or Patriot Act-esque (Bush sucks) web filters/spying

You said porn is addictive? No it isn't. I've seen porn before, and I'm not some raving lunatic pervert. Nearly everyone I know has seen porn in one form or another, and never became a "porn addict". I never said let your kids watch it, I said don't use filters like webnazi(sense), but teach them why they shouldn't and they probably won't want to. The only age that a filter might be appropriate for are kids uneducated about what sex is, as it is a duty of you as a parent to teach them at what age you see fit (definitely under teens though). Secondly, I never said anything about drinking or smoking, because those can be potentially harmful. You are taking things way out of context. I say don't use filters, and you assume I'm an anarchist or something? I can't stop you from doing whatever you want to do, so all I can do is try. I've got many friends who have filters on their computers, and all they do is complain about their overprotective parents, having filters can even be a source of bullying from kids.

I don't think it's wrong for parents to have problems with porn on the internet. They don't want their kids to see it. I don't understand why that is a problem. Porn can be very addicting. What you're saying is that parents shouldn't care about all the porn on the internet and just let their kids explore? With that logic, you would also say that we should take away smoking and drinking age limits and let kids explore. Porn is bad. Parents want to protect their children from bad. Therefore, parents want to protect their children from porn. There's no problem with that.

This site definitely isn't' about doom and gloom. As Anne and say in our book (unabashed plug), social networking is an incredibly positive phenomenon, especially for teens. The whole purpose of this site is to help promote social networking by teaching people to use it safely. That's why virtually all of the leading social networking companies are helping sponsor the site.

What you think of as a good site depends on what you like/do. For example, if you like hunting, there is good hunting sites. No matter what you like, you can probably find a good site for it. Why dwell on the bad stuff when there are better things to do? I can understand parents being concerned about their kid's safety but come on, there is crime in nearly every nook and cranny in today's society, including the internet. I can also understand posting for help on a forum like this one, but all they talk about is porn, porn, porn, predators, predators, predators, and none of the good things. Don't believe me? take a look around the forum. Another thing, why are there so many posts about that? They can probably all get the same information out of one or two posts.

P.S.
sorry about calling people whiners, I was a little wound up, all I want is for the people on this site to realiz that it isn't all doom and gloom.

Hey Sons of Liberty, So you think by you complaining about people who you call "Whiners" helps?

These people are on this site to learn what they can do to help their children. And if you find something wrong with that. Then I hope you never have children yourself.

Why don't you help by showing people what are the better sites? and help educate them.
