Please refrain from advertising your software and services, people. We don't want to start deleting posts. We do appreciate it when parents post about products they've tried, positive or negative, but we really hope they're really parents and not undercover marketers! Thanks,

I have had luck with www.vooga.net . For $20-25 they sent me a copy of my 2 daughter's Myspace and facebook accounts... For more money, they will send you abunch of pictures that have been posted, but I didn't try that...

Just my $.02

Though this program offers an opportunity to sell your own copy of it and there are many other surveillance software online, this is the most helpful AND inexpensive way to do it. Instead of trying to look for ways to monitor kids' activity online, you should try the most obvious.

Also, this program is safe from malware AND spyware installation. This is a man who has used it for a year with no problems. There is a free trial if you want to convince yourself.

Lastly, if you think this is a way to spam the internet with mindless products, you are wrong. This is a relevant and effective method to see what your children are doing without having to go through the risk of prying into their social lives directly. Remember, a parent can also LISTEN and LEARN. The choice is yours.

Thanks to jbcoops and Michael for your helpful responses to this ad. I'd recommend to all forum members to be careful about clicking on links that are embedded in posts that clearly are advertising. I also recommend GetNetWise.org's searchable database of parental controls software. It's quite comprehensive and provided by the Washington, DC-based nonprofit Internet Education Foundation. All best,

Hello:

I beleive that many web sites offer monitoring software. I think a simple google search for computer tracking software will bring up thousands of results. There are too many programs out there to mention, but with paid services, I would advise anyone that would be interested in that kind of software to please check the support options. You may need them. Also look for a phone number to call so you can actually speak to someone before you buy anything.

Royaltyware costs $50 and installs a program "Desktop Snooper" (keystroke capture). You also create your own Royltyware software page and sell your own copy of Desktop Snooper.

I didn't see anything that indicated that Desktop Snooper or anything from Royaltyware installs malware or spyware on your computer. However, it is definitely an ad-based system where your own website becomes the ad.

I think it would behoove us to take a look at a variety of paid and free solutions to the problems raised here. Clearly the prediliction the media has for online predators and other dark sides of the Net has produced a virtual cottage industry of spyware removers (many of which cost, and some which install their own spyware and browser hijackers), snoopware, filterware, and other software designed to help parents/teachers/etc. monitor the online activities of today's youth.

I personally think that if we actively engaged our students and children with interesting and positive sites, that we wouldn't have to worry, at least not nearly so much, about what they're doing online. I have recommended Tapped In, Takingitglobal and Nabuur for some time, and I'd like to get a list of sites that others would recommend for a positive surfing experience.

Regards,

Jeff Cooper
