looking for blog site(s) for young teens

Hi:

I am teaching grades 6-10 about Internet safety and want to develop curriculum that is authentic and engaging - kids will have computers and I want them find some text and photos to see how easy it is to copy and save them.

However, myspace has too much content that is inappropriate for this age group. I don't want to create an uproar (either in class or from parents) about it. SO - I'm looking for blogs for young kids. Suggestions?!

Thanks - sbb

Thanks Anne! I think for now I will use this great (and totally inoffensive) site created and maintained by a 13-year old (believe it or not) all about sports.

What a great idea, stevieb, but that's a tough question - because child-safe services aren't by definition open to the general public for perusing blogs and grabbing photos. For example, blogs in the new Imbee.com blogging and IM-ing service for kids and tweens aren't open to anyone but people on a child's friends list. I believe the same is true wth ClubPenguin.com. Maybe you could call Imbee, which is specifically marketing to educators, and arrange something for your curriculum; they may be interested in developing something with a teacher. Here's their teachers page. Another service just for educators is ePals Classroom Exchange; you might run your idea by them too.

Any other ideas from educators here?
