MySpace's reputation
After being buried getting this site up and working on our upcoming book (MySpace Unraveled)I finally am around other people -- normal people who aren't knee deep in this web/social networking thing. I'm at Asilomar (near Monterrey, CA) for my wife's family reunion.
Last night when someone asked me what I'm up to I mentioned that I'm co-writing (with Anne Collier) a book about MySpace and the response was "MySpace -- that's a bad place." Another person said "MySpace is evil."
In both cases, they had heard all the negative publicity and were left with an impression that MySpace is an inherently dangerous place.
When I talked with them for awhile they began to reconsider and admit that it's only dangerous if you use it in a dangerous manner, but it's still interesting to see how at least a few people are reacting to all the media around this service.
