What do you see as the major plusses and minuses of social networking?

two major plusses:
1. kids get to reach out to others all over the world and make friends, they get to learn much more about diversity than I could ever teach from a book by interacting with a diverse group of people
2. The internet, blogging and chatting and such tends to increase childrens ability to write thoughtful, high order material.
One major minus:
its a tightrope walk finding the right amount of privacy and parental control. this can cause much stress and anxiety

Best thing is the ability to reach out to others. Worst is all of the junk you see on some of the sites.
