I want to find a pen pal for my grandson who is 10 years old. I think this would be interesting for him and he can learn how other kids live. Is there anyway to check if a pen pal list is legitimate? Can anyone recommend a safe Pen Pal site?

Jeff, Thank you so much for your advice. I just found your response. The Internet can be wonderful and it can be terrible. One cannot be too careful.

Hi Jillbie, I have several recommendations. First, the safest email system for your purposes is Epals. Go there and create an account for yourself, and then an account for your grandson. Epals is free webbased email and *completely in-house*. That means that all email from outside sources is banned. Your grandson will only receive email from other epals accounts. After you have created those accounts, you may then peruse the different classes around the world who are also looking for "epals" and connect with one (or more) of them. My other recommendation is to register at Tapped In. Tapped In is a global educator's collaborative, but grandmothers are welcome there! Again, after you register, you may create a K-12 "classroom" and an account for your grandson. Collaboration with other classes (and students) is also possible. There are more tools at Tapped In, but there are more possibilities for email friendships at Epals. Using both systems will broaden your (and your grandson's) horizons. I volunteer on Helpdesk at Tapped In and my account name there is JeffC. I will be happy to help set you and your grandson up there.
