Hi Singleover.

Bullying is a big problem in many schools. My son, who is now a freshman in high school, was bullied alot when he was in middle school. He said that it is very important to stand up to bullies -- even if you are feeling scared. Always keep your cool.

If bullies know that they are going to be able to get you upset, they will keep trying to do so. So even though you are scared inside, it is important not to let bullies know that you are feeling scared. Pretend that you are a strong person who is not getting upset by the bullying but will insist that it stop. Stand tall. Look the bullies in the eye. What happens when you try to pretend to feel really strong is that pretty soon you actually feel much stronger. And when you look and feel strong, the bullies tend not to pick on you. Sometimes it is easier to do this when you are with a friend.

Also, keep reporting to your teacher and insist that the school do something. If the school isn't listening to you, make sure your parents talk with the school. These boys should get into worse trouble if they are repeating the bullying, especially if this is in retaliation for your reporting.

So pretend to be strong, stand up tall, look them straight in the eyes and say, "Aren't you guys getting tired of this? You pick on me. I report you. You get in trouble. Are you having a problem figuring this out?"

Have you talked to an adult about this-- like your parents, or your teacher? It's not tattling, it's asking for help/advice from people close to the situation. Bullying is not cool, and it's nothing you should have to just 'deal with'

Parents really do want to help. It may feel awkward to tell them, but if someone was bullying your parents, wouldn't you want to know? As for teachers... they might be able to help you out in a non-confrontational way. If you're afraid of telling your teacher, and having your teacher yell at the boys-- tell him/her. Ask for help/advice, anything that can stop the situation before it gets worse.

It is NOT your fault that you're getting bullied. Remember that
