The internet:SERIOUS BUISNESS. ... with that[satire] set aside, I must say. The article was really quite pointless. It showed an overprotective mother. I strongly disliked it. Danger is EVERYWHERE. Most of it can be prevented by not being stupid and using common sense. Some of it can't though. Most people can't use common sense online, they can't tell the difference between someone who cares and someone who is after something else[trust me, you CAN tell the difference, unless your so terribly blind.] However those who can have absolutely no problem talking to strangers on line. Liberty means IN GENERAL most people can't handle talking to strangers online. I mean, look at the majority of myspace. Remember, everything is a generalization. Always. -- Watch, watch me disappearing completely/In the dream of destruction and rebirth, this poem will be sung/In this fragmented sky, aaah, dozing, you had searched for the feeling that was wished for. I have not been around the last few days but all I can say after reading this is Liberty you have good ideas but you are quite ignorant. Anything you read online is talking to a stranger it is just at a slow pace. Posting here is talking to strangers because you do not know any of us. Anyone you meet is a stranger untill you know them. My best friend I actualy met online as well, one of my friends perents met online and are still merried with 4 kids. Expecting people to shelter themselves for safety is an ignorant veiw when looking at human nature. If we were to follow what you have stated blogs would not exist online messengers would be useless social net working sites would be nonexistant. You may have good ideas and veiws but you need to take a real world veiw. If I had followed your advice and never gotten to know a stranger online I would not know two of my best friend but I have also seen the bad side of it when a close friend of mine I found out was made up by someone else I thought was a close friend. So some people are out to do harm but I like to think most people I contact online are decent. -- -Rasma

Son of Liberty, You are a very smart kid -- you remind me a bit of myself when I was younger. You make some excellent points and express opinions that need to be considered. You also offer the perspective of youth that is often lacking in these discussions which is why Anne (my co-director) and I are delighted to have you as a regular contributor. But I do have some advice. Try to be a bit more strategic when expressing your opinion. You have the vocabulary to be convincing but -- trust me I know from experience -- sarcasm and arrogance doesn't win the day. I can be effective when rallying one's own troops but it's never effective when trying to win the hearts of people who have any doubt whatsoever about what you're saying. -- Larry Co-director BlogSafety.com

Once again, read the post, it says that talking to strangers is stupid on the internet, just as it is in real life. -- When did parents get so irresponsible as to have people do their parenting for them? Are they so spineless as to not be able to confront their kids and have a talk? Why is it that crooked politicians can manipulate fear to destroy our rights (patriot act) and ruin what separates this great country from the countless others that simply block people from things to teach them? How have we let this happen?

No, it has nothing to do with being stupid. I got caught up in dangerous stuff myself. It can happen to anyone. I thought I trusted someone but they had other intentions. -- I'm always in the mood for a little jazz. MSU music performance major Just loving life and music.

Read what I posted below and don't disregard it. The first part of the word overprotectiveness is over, meaning that there is too much of it. Don't be stupid and you'll be completely fine. -- When did parents get so irresponsible as to have people do their parenting for them? Yes, the internet is a super higway. Highways are known for their dangers. Parents need to have the computer in a family location so they can know what's going on. The internet should be a family thing. -- I'm always in the mood for a little jazz. MSU music performance major Just loving life and music.

I don't know what you mean by everyday-I've used the internet since the '90s and have never once been seriously threatened by someone on the internet. But yes, you should teach your kids about the dangers. -- When did parents get so irresponsible as to have people do their parenting for them?
