webcam safety

i was wondering, say you were chatting with someone on yahoo, and you had your webcam on. Can they record your cam, ip address and all that, then turn it and expose it to your family. One of my friends' kids had that threatened on them.

Good question. Although it probably can't be done directly through the Yahoo software, the answer is yes because there are ways people can record the actual video and audio stream and there are certainly ways to track and IP address. I would always assume that when you're communicating via the Net (video, text, voice, etc) there is a chance that it could be recorded, stored and forwarded and that it could be around forever. I also recommend that you unplug the webcam when it's not in use to make sure it's not accidentally broadcasting or turned on remotely.
