It depends on how the youth using the internet as the global information. It also much influenced by the moral background of the youth. Youth with good moral back will take very much advantage information from the internet to enrich their life. But if the youth have a bad moral background, internet will destroy their live.

So, we are as parent have resposibility to create a good moral background to allow them making a better live in future.

I believe the internet is destroying people. Especially kids, my kids. I don't understand why the law allows such freely accessible adult material to be available for anyone. Not to mention the ability for sexual predators to secretly hide, pretending to be someone else. I finally wised up recently and got software to prevent all of this. I can't believe how well it works. It is called SafeEyes and I found it at this website www.safeeyes.tru-review.com. As Rasma wrote, the internet also has tons of useful information for us to indulge in and to stay current with the latest happenings. Overall, I think the internet is only starting and we have a lot to look forward to.

Ello everyone I am back for now and one thing I have noticed since I had started going on the internet my language skills have gone up, I can spell better and I have a much larger vocabulary. Then another posative impact I have noticed is I can talk with people all over the world, I have friends in other states and even other contries. But there are also nagative impacts, cyber slacking, cyber stalking, cyber terrorism. But anything has both good and bad parts. So you need to weigh the bad against the good and that usualy ends up in oppinion :). And in my honest oppinion the good out weighs the bad in the sence of this topic so I feel that the internet does more good then harm to youth in general

I'm not sure the "results are in" but I'll make some unscientific observations. I think the Internet is having a lot of positive impact on young people's relationships by helping them remain connected. Cell phones play a big role too. I'm optimistic that today's youth will grow up to be more in touch with friends and family. Based on my 20 and 22 year olds who grew up with the Internet, I'm feeling pretty optimistic.

That's a huge question, Wesley. I hope others will chime in, here! We've heard quite a bit in the news media in the last year or so about the negative potential impact of the Internet on youth - maybe even since the Web went mainstream in the mid-'90s. A 2000 study from the Crimes Against Children Research Center Research at UNH has probably been the most widely quoted (here's coverage of its update this year). Research about the positives is only beginning to reach a mainstream audience. The MacArthur Foundation just recently announced a $50 million commitment to such research. I took a look at one of the first papers released since the announcement - "Confronting the Challenges of Participatory Culture," by Henry Jenkins and co-authors at MIT - in my newsletter a couple of weeks ago. Here are highlights and links to more research from a number of sources even since then. I hope this begins to answer your question. All best,
Anne
