Hi there, I have a site that I am planning on using for my family members. Currently I do not have any "friends" on my profile. I set the private setting to the highest security level, to where nobody but friends can view my profile. The funniest thing is. When I clicked the refresh button, the view went from 0 to 1 view. Keep in mind, I do not have a "friend" and the private is set to friends only... how did this happen?

Here's the scoop from MySpace:
If you set your account to private and somebody without permissions attempts to view it, they don’t receive an error message, they receive a screen with the user’s default image, city, gender and a contact box. Viewing this screen equals a page view. It is also important to note that when a page view registers and when it doesn’t can get very complicated if you aren’t paying close attention to which account you are logged into, if you are working out of multiple browsers, etc.
The upshot then, I think, is that your profile's private even tho' the no. of views went from 0 to 1. Hope that helps,
Anne

NonSmoker -- I'm trying to get a handle on this issue. I gather you're concerned that uninvited people are viewing your prviate profile -- a very valid concern. But before I can possibly get a Myspace official to deal with this, I need to know what counter you're using. Is this an official counter from MySpace (I'm not aware of any but I don't keep up with everything they do). If not, where did you get the code for it? I wonder if the counter is incorrectly counting your own hits. If it's a third party, counter, tell me where you got it so I can check it out. If we can figure out the exact problem, we can escalate this to a MySpace security expert. -- Larry Co-director BlogSafety.com

This is a copy and paste of the actual information, given by myspace. While entering the profile many times over and over as I was designing my profile. It never registured all the other times I went into it. The thing is if it's an inacurate counter, that would be a sad thing. But if ts someone breaking through the security features, that would frightning... -------------------copy---and----paste--below------------ The profile view stat shows how many times your profile has been viewed by other users on MySpace. The number of views is displayed on your home page. You can reset your counter to zero at any time, by clicking the Reset Button below. Note: Viewing your own profile will NOT add a view to your counter. Your profile view count is incremented only when other users view your profile. -- Edited by NonSmoker at 02/16/2007 9:03 AM

Are you sure it wasn't yourself that viewed your own profile? i'm not sure if it registers you as a vote or not.

NonSmoker, you need to tell us which service you're referring to. We can't tell you exactly what happened on that particular service, but we can pass your question along. Best,
Anne
