Anonymous Surfing

I've heard about ways people can surf the Web anonymously by hiding their address (I'm a beginner, so I don't know if it's an e-mail address).

Can a pedophile be stopped from surfing anonymously?

Thanks,

Tracing an IP back to its original computer is extremely difficult. Most people's IP address changes every few weeks and the court system is exceptionally slow at obtaining a warrant for ISP's.

As for anonymous surfing, there is no way to truly surf anonymously. What most sophisticated internet users do to better conceal their identiy is use proxy servers. A proxy server is basically a computer that lets other connect to the internet throught it. For example...If I created a proxy server and its IP address is 55.55.55.555 and your at home comupter IP address is 44.44.44.444. If you connected through my proxy server everyone would not see your 44 IP address, they would instead see my 55 address.

This gets very hard to track when people chain multiple proxies involving other countries, etc...

How easy do you think it would be to get a search warrant for Iraq?

If someone really wants to be anonymous and knows what to do, there is very little that can be done to stop them. There are certainly cases, however, where pedophiles have been caught by tracing back their IP (Internet Protocol) addresses.
