Pornography at MySpace

Well, the crafty pornographers have figured out how to put porn on MySpace. Here's what they are doing:

1. A porn site creates a MySpace site
2. They send out a ton-o-friend requests
3. When you visit the MySpace site, it instantly goes to a porn site (not a MySpace site)

This is a sample of the concept. Don't worry: if you visit this site, it has been made invalid. Yesterday, it was redirected to a porn site. Fortunately, MySpace took the site down. However, how many more sites like this are out there? I don't know.

MY Space is not safe! i will give you 2 reasons that will shock you

Myspace Contract

1) . The contract states that MySpace collects your information like name, email address, age, and personal interests. And has the license to use and publicize your information in any way it chooses.

That is how this free website makes its money. It sells your information to other sites. Often times, it’s pornographic and suspicious websites that you wouldn’t normally visit. It also makes it very easy for a sexual predator or a computer hacker to find your information on Myspace.

And the contract actually states that it can use your information.....

2) Tom Anderson (the co-founder and president) ran a pornagraphy site before his MySpace days..... He photographed the models himself and was almost sued for sexual harrassment !!!!

MySpace is not a safe site... you really have to be careful what you put in your profile... you never know who is looking at it or using it.

On the other hand myspace lies about deleting minors. If you see a minor that is lying about there age. When you report this minor to myspace they will not remove the profile unless the profile states the real age of the user. So if someone underage states that they are older and does not state there real age in the profile, myspace will not remove the profile.

Just as profiles that are links to porn sites. If you report such profiles to myspace they will not remove the profile and they will send you a notice from myspace that the profile has been removed when if fact they do not remove the porn related profile. Sometimes I think Myspace is behind some of these pofiles just to make some extra money

Thanks for the heads-up, Ken. This is one of the depressing downsides or abuses we're all seeing on the user-produced Web, or "Web 2.0." I think it's important to put it in context, tho'; there are plenty of positive, creative uses of html (social networkers' opp to put that computer code in their blogs and profiles), which is how these porn redirects happen, I believe. Another example of the upside/downside is in video-sharing, as the Associated Press reported over the weekend in "Online Video Boom Raises Risks, Concerns." Yahoo Video, YouTube, Guba, Google Video - all those sites where young producers and videographers can upload their creations - are scrambling to figure out how best to allow for the creativity of creators of all ages, shown to viewers of all ages, while dealing with abuses in an intelligent, granular way. These are interesting times for "consumer" Web businesses!
