I work in a retail stores and I came across what seemed to be a profile that one of my co-workers/friends had. It didn't have much, it looked like someone started the profile and didn't finish. It had her name, age and where she lived. I saw her a few days later and told her about the profile and she said that she did not make it. She is pretty upset that someone set up a fake account to try to pretend to be her. She asked me to help in removing it. I tried contacting Customer Service about 5 times and have not recieved a reponse and the profile is still up. I contacted the owner of Myspace, Tom, and he isn't doing anything about the profile that isn't hers. This is a safety issue and we would like this matter resolved as soon as possible. The profile is here: myspace.com/123625774. Any help would be great. Thanks. -Matt

I don't understand why people make imposter pages either. Someone made one of my friend, and she didn't know what to do either. So I emailed MySpace but they said she had to contact them. Then she emailed MySpace, and they asked her to take a picture of herself holding a paper with her Friend ID number from her real profile on it. It took two tries though. I think it's because MySpace is really picky about those salutes. But hey, you wouldn't want them to delete your profile if someone sent a fake salute picture to them, right? So for that, my friend and I really didn't mind. It seems that they like the salutes when it's a full body picture, because they didn't accept her webcam pics. I guess they wanted to see all of her lol. Anyway, once we got it right, the imposter profile got removed that very day. So we had a good experience with their customer support. They'll remove your imposter profiles with no problem, just as long as you send them a good salute.

Social networking is totally new territory and very scary for me. I really do not understand people who create fake profiles. MySpace support has too many letters like yours, so be patient.

Can someone please help me get this issue resolved. Someone has created a imposter page using my information and as a result I've been going through high emotional and mental stress. Everytime I google my name this degrading and demeaning page comes up and the sad thing is that it also includes the name of my town, this is indeed unsafe because I feel like my safety might be at risk. This must have been done be a jilted ex or a jealous person from my town. Please help me..I've contacted myspace customer support atleast 86 times literaly and I've yet to receive a response...Please can you help me resolve this issue because its slowly driving me into a state of depression....Thank You...this is a link to the fake and very disturbing page) http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=207928234 -- Edited by Shamcash at 03/05/2009 9:50 AM -- Edited by Shamcash at 03/05/2009 9:56 AM

Hi, Ethaneyre, You did the correct thing. Give MySpace about a week to respond - as you can imagine, they get a lot of reports about fake accounts. Let us know if you don't hear back in a few days and we'll send your message to our contact (though we can't guarantee they'll respond). Tx, Maureen ~ Maureen Kochan ConnectSafely community manager

I am really bummed, becauase a few girls I dated, who I didnt stay with, joined together to create a very mean imposter account of me. Any ideas of what I can do? I already reported to myspace about 4 days ago. I also submitted my salute photo, however, the account is still online. Ethan

Welcome Rob09, MySpace typically responds within about a week. When did you send the report, and did you include a salute? (MySpace says including a salute expedites the process.) If not, please submit another one and include a salute. Click here for instructions. If you've submitted a report (w/ salute), and it's been more than a week, let us know and we'll forward your message to our contact at MySpace. (We need you to go through the proper channels first.) Regards, Maureen ~ Maureen Kochan ConnectSafely forum manager

I just recieve notice that there is an imposter profile using my name and photo's as well. The person is deliberately using false information about me, im particular, sexual preference. Myspace has been contacted, yet they still have not deleted the account. Is there any kind of legal action thatcan be taken? Can you please help? The address is www.myspace.com/hoeassnigga1.

You need to bring the persons identity under discovery proceures. Which requires some tact. The key info is the email of the profile it is registered to and IP. The email is most likely web based. But IP information can be had from any emails from the person and matched to the site. You can subpeona the relevant info from the ISP and the webmail and cross-reference it with the profile information. But this has to be done via the courts. But you will get the information and the ISP will have the users address. Unless they dont have a real ISP and are using a school or cafe. You could still get video tape records of the time and date the person logged in from say starbucks. Its all procedure. If its from a school, like college campus. Well, they will know the walls are closing in. I know one girl goes to the computer lab at UCR to use the computers. I could get somone at UCR to hang out at the library to catch her in the act but its not worht it (not nessessary). Forget the class action. You wont get much money but use the leverage to SETTLE to make myspace change its policys like using verifyed profiles. Do it for the people not your personal counter-revenge.

People. You need to put your myspace id ONTOP of your image as a WATERMARK along with the EMAIL your myspace page is registered to. And then if anyone has the original picture without watermark. You KNOW its someone you know with the original picture. I think myspace should do one of two things: Block direct links to pictures on myspace. Or when you view a picture, it puts the IP of the source picture at the bottom as a watermark and or the username. If they added this as a new policy, any direct linked picture will show the IP of the owner based on the IP on login. Which is not so great an idea. But it shows the originating users site. You have some people using direct links on pages, forums or chatrooms. This reveals the origin of the page. Too much unscrutability on these types of pages.
