I work in a retail stores and I came across what seemed to be a profile that one of my co-workers/friends had. It didn't have much, it looked like someone started the profile and didn't finish. It had her name, age and where she lived. I saw her a few days later and told her about the profile and she said that she did not make it. She is pretty upset that someone set up a fake account to try to pretend to be her. She asked me to help in removing it. I tried contacting Customer Service about 5 times and have not recieved a reponse and the profile is still up. I contacted the owner of Myspace, Tom, and he isn't doing anything about the profile that isn't hers. This is a safety issue and we would like this matter resolved as soon as possible. Happy to help, Hoovie! That profile violated MySpace's Terms of Service in a number of ways, and I'm glad it's gone. (And hopefully it will stay that way!)

I woke up this morning and "poof" the imposter profile was gone. What you do at this site is a complete miracle. I appreciate the quick response more then you'll ever know. I have a very professional career and the imposter profiles that have been posted are obscene and horrifying and not to mention they could alter my career if any associates were to find out. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope this type of thing does not appear again. I'm trying to ignore it and move on. Now I can only hope she does the same. They say if you don't give in to them, they usually get tired b/c they see no reaction. Hope this statement is true. Otherwise, if it were to happen again I will contact a lawyer & try to get a restraining order like you suggested.

Hoovie, I’m so sorry this is happening again. I looked at the profile and while it’s disgusting and reprehensible, I don’t think any laws were broken. I’m not a lawyer so please check with one for definitive advice.
I did forward your message to our contact at MySpace, but unfortunately there’s no guarantee that another imposter profile won’t pop up in its place. If that happens, my advice would be to talk to a lawyer about getting a restraining order. This might be the best way to ensure this person doesn’t bother you again.

Hi Anne,
You were instrumental in helping me remove an imposter profile last month. However, she is at it again. Last time she posted my home address and made me feel very unsafe. Now it’s been reported to me that she has requested everyone that attended Deltona High School to be friends with yet another fake profile. On the new imposter profile she has provided my home phone number which will not stop ringing and has made very upsetting comments about my mother (who passed away years ago), my dad and even my 10 yr old niece. I have done nothing to provoke this person. Once the fake profile was deleted I thought that would be it and I could move on. I just don’t understand…
I have reported the profile to myspace, but I know how long they take to get the job done. I’m not a mean person nor do I have the time or energy to deal with this type of bulling. I work 2 jobs and study on my time off to get ahead in my career. Can I press charges? I’d hate for it to come to that, but a 24 yr old girl has nothing better to do then to make a ridicules fake profiles about me and I’m at a loss….

Welcome Mimismom,
You can contact MySpace by email via the ParentCare support team here. To talk to someone, click on "Contact ParentCare by Phone" halfway down the page; you'll receive an email with a toll-free number and an access code. Have the fake profile’s URL handy before you call.
As for legal recourse, I’d contact your local police department once you’ve taken a look at the fake profile. But there’s usually little they can do unless your boyfriend is threatening physical harm against you or your daughter, or somehow posted inappropriate photos of a minor.
If another imposter profile pops up after MySpace removes the first one (this happens a lot), I’d consider talking to a lawyer about pursuing a restraining order against your ex.

I need help! My 15 year old daughter believes that my ex-boyfriend (who is 44) has created a fake myspace profile of her. I have not yet seen the profile, but would not doubt it given his history. She said he has contacted myspace, but is there some legal recourse since she's a minor? And is there any way to speed up the process of having the profile deleted?

oh ok thanks! yes i took that off my cell phone, which is why it might look unclear. so i include myspace.com and my friend id on the salute? and send it as an attachment, then include the fake url's in the message.

Hi Silkybabe, I heard back from our contact at MySpace. You’ll need to resubmit the imposter report to imposterreport@myspace.com, and include a new salute with a handwritten sign. (MySpace rejects salutes that contain unclear or digitally altered signs, which yours appears to be.)

I am having a problem with a myspace imposter profile..It's not with me this time, it's with my brother...I just looked on there and she has stolen a picture of me and put it on there saying that I am a transsexual!!!!! The IMPOSTER url is http://www.myspace.com/dwayneinup My brother's REAL url is http://www.myspace.com/1776493 This PSYCHOTIC ex girlfriend of his cannot let go and has made a page accusing him of being gay and has his phone number on MySpace...Can you please help?? hi, i just got this message today to my reply on here about my salute. what i included in my salute was the myspace.com and underneath i wrote my friend id. but here it says my salute was not verified as acceptable salutes, so im wondering if i missed anything, it says to include the impostor urls, but that kind of confused me as to put it on my salute?

Hello
In order to verify identity, we require that the party in question sends us a salute. This means we will need an image of them holding a hand written sign that says ‘MySpace.com’ and if they are a MySpace.com user, their Friend ID (the number between ID= and &mytoken in the URL), or if they are not a MySpace.com user, the email address that they will be sending their response from. The salute can either be sent as an email attachment or a link to where it is uploaded. Please include in the URLs of any accounts that need to be removed that are stealing the identity of the individual. After we receive the salute, we can then remove any profiles in question.
The previous salutes could not be verified by our agents as acceptable salutes.
Please resend a salute using the guidlines noted above.
