What *probably* happened is that you went to a "friend's" page on MySpace to view their pix, etc. When you clicked on a link to get to the pic (or blog, etc.) you got a popup with a MySpace login screen that said "you must be logged in to do that." You might have wondered "but I'm already logged in, oh well" and logged in again. Did this happen?

If so, that page has a "phishing" link and you gave up your user name and password, as well as the user name and password to your email account (which is why it's always a bad idea to use the same password on MySpace as your email).

If that did happen to you, and you remember whose profile you were at when you were "phished" then you have several options, including telling an adult and following through against the kid who stole your account. Whatever you do, I recommend telling your parent(s) and/or a teacher at school. This sort of phishing attack happens a lot on MySpace as kids do it all the time to mess with their enemies online.

MySpace does have a way to deal with it, as you have tried. You'll have to keep trying (they're obviously *very* busy with requests like this, and others). You could also create another MySpace and email account (I recommend doing this anyway, with *different* passwords).

One other, though less likely possibility is that you have a keystroke trojan on your computer, where someone may steal your user names and passwords. You'll have to make sure your virus protection is up to date and scan, as well as use Spybot Search and Destroy. I also recommend Trendmicro's "Housecall" which is a free online virus scanner.

The third possibility is that you gave someone you know your password on purpose, and they turned out not to be the friend you thought they were.

In any event, I'm sorry to hear that someone is misusing the Net against you. It's cyberbullying and is completely inappropriate. The only thing good that comes out of it is that I'm sure you'll learn from the experience and be more careful next time.
